Book Review: Chain Reaction by Simone Elkeles

Summary: Luis Fuentes has always been sheltered from the gang violence that nearly destroyed his brothers’ lives. But that didn’t stop him from taking risks—whether he’s scaling a mountain in the Rockies or dreaming of a future as an astronaut, Luis can’t stop looking for the next thrill.

Nikki Cruz lives her life by three rules—boys lie to get their way, don’t trust a boy who says “I love you,” and never date a boy from the south side of Fairfield. Her parents may be from Mexico, but as a doctor’s daughter, she has more in common with her north-side neighbors than the Latino Blood at her school. Then she meets Luis at Alex’s wedding, and suddenly, she’s tempted to break all her rules.

Getting Nikki to take a chance on a southsider is Luis’s biggest challenge, until he finds himself targeted by Chuy Soto, the new head of the Latino Blood. When Chuy reveals a disturbing secret about Luis’s family, the youngest Fuentes finds himself questioning everything he’s ever believed to be true. Will his feelings for Nikki be enough to stop Luis from entering a dark and violent world and permanently living on the edge?

Review: There are honestly a million words to describe this book, but I'll put it into one word for you: AMAZING! I was so excited for this book to come out, so when I finally got it in the mail I was ecstatic. I started reading the book and loved EVERY SINGLE SECOND of it. I didn't know if it was possible to love another character as much as I loved Alex and Carlos, but boy is it possible! Luis is so amazing! He's smart (he wants to be an astronaut), caring (he's so sweet to Nikki), and a rebel (come on, he's a Fuentes after all!). I just wanted to dive into the pages and bring Luis home with me! And I loved how Alex and Carlos were still in the story. The readers get to see how their relationships were going while watching Luis and Nikki's relationship grow. I also really liked Nikki. The girls of the series all differ so much, but they're all perfect for their men. Nikki doesn't take any crap from Luis because she was scarred from her past relationship. Watching Luis break down her walls and watching their passion unfold made this book so good! I was so sad when I finished and wished that I hadn't read it so fast because now it's all over. I would LOVE it if Simone wrote a book about the Fuentes brother's sons, but I know that even if she doesn't, whatever she writes next will still be amazing. As for now, I think everyone should read this book as soon as possible because if you don't, you are seriously going to regret it!
